Star Fugs

There are lots of ways for an actor to battle persistent gay rumors, should he choose to do so: showing up at a variety of locales with beautiful, busty women; going on Stern to talk about how much he LOVES...

Economic Impact of the NCAA?s Final Four

Skip Sauer | SPORTS | Monday, July 31st, 2006
The Final Four in Indianapolis last March was estimated to have a $40m economic impact on the city of Indianapolis (yawn).

Here's the press release associated with the study, done by Lawrence Davidson and Bruce Jaffee of the Indiana University School of Business. The interesting part is that Davidson and Jaffee only attempt to measure the direct expenditures of the estimated 44,000 visitors - they don'use a multiplier, so the estimate is described as "conservative." Fair enough.

There's one more interesting note in the press release. When the Final Four returns in 2010, the venue will shift from the RCA Dome, with a capacity of 43,800, to the new Lucas Oil Stadium "which has been designed to hold as many as 70,000 fans for the Men'’s Final Four." 70,000? Ugh - doesn't 43,800 overdo it already? I don't know about you, but I don't like watching basketball with binoculars. I tried it at the Kingdome many years ago for a Sonics game. I remember the experience vividly, because it was so awful. But at least it was cheap. I can't imagine buying such a ticket at a premium price.

Lohan’s Mom is Pissed

Kelditty | CELEBRITY | Monday, July 31st, 2006
Lindsay Lohan's mom is defending her daughter after allegations of hard partying behavior. Dina Lohan, stated "there is only so much a child can take" in response to a studio executive's charge that Lohan was "irresponsible and unprofessional" when she didn't show up for work on her movie Georgia Rule. Somebody better clue Dina in that her daughter is far from being a child but then again this isn't the only thing that Mrs. Lohan has a warped mentality about. If your daughter is a child then buy her a Barbie and tell her to go play. Wahh Wahh Wahh.

Welll what do you know......Lindsay went to a PARTY this weekend.

Remember When Jamal Magloire Was Worth Something?

the mighty mjd | SPORTS | Monday, July 31st, 2006

Two years ago, the guy was an All-Star. Now, he’s being traded for a package of Steve Blake, Brian Skinner, and a tall Asian who is not named Yao Ming. That’s like going from prom queen to giving $4 blowjobs to truckers at highway rest stops in the span of two years.

So Magloire is headed for Portland, where he’ll be backing up Joel Przybilla. Raise your hand if, back in 2004, you predicted that Jamal Magloire would be backing up Joel Przybilla. If I was the Blazers, I’d trade Zach Randolph to the Knicks for their next 17 first round picks, and run with Przybilla and Magliore until LaMarcus Aldridge was ready.

In exchange, the Bucks get the afore-mentioned Blake, Skinner, and Ha Seung-Jin, none of whom are going to start, one of whom, Ha, who probably won’t be in the leage. Steve Blake’s a decent player, a good back-up point guard, and useful to have around, but… it still feels like a little bit of a giveaway on the Milwaukee side.

The Islamicization of International Law Via the UN

GOP Bloggers | POLITICS | Monday, July 31st, 2006

Slowly but surely, the UN is becoming a tool for censorship and the subjugation of Western liberal notions of freedom to Sharia law. Not content to fleece American taxpayers to fund corruption and fecklessness, the UN is now forcing us to finance its legitmization of terrorism and the creeping insistence of the Organization of the Islamic Conference that non-Muslims place the Quran above our own freedom of speech.
